F.A.Q.

Why is Rince Nia Academy the right choice for my child?

At Rince Nia Academy we strive to create a family-oriented environment. We believe that all our
students should have fun while learning, but also know that hard work and determination
will be needed to reach their full potential. Rince Nia Academy puts equal emphasis on performance and competition, allowing the student to figure out what they enjoy most. Through Rince Nia Academy
classes a student will learn discipline, confidence and skills that will serve them long into their lives.

     Costumes are expensive, right?
To anyone not already immersed in Irish dancing, this is probably the most common misunderstanding of Irish dance. Yes, costumes can be expensive, but only if you want them to be. We start out our dancers in a rental Rince Nia junior-jumper costume for our youngest beginners followed by a Rince Nia jumper which is purchased for the older beginners through Intermediate levels ages 6-10. Ages 10+ will go straight into a Rince Nia dress while the higher tiers of competitive Irish dance wear solo dresses. Once you reach this level costs are kept low by shopping for used dresses or new dresses made in the USA or Canada. All of these costumes can be worn for many years and sold on. Once you buy and then sell a dress, you make a lot of your money back -- similar to renting a costume.

Do you have to be Irish to Irish dance?
No, all that is needed is a keen interest to learn. We welcome children of all ages and
backgrounds to come learn the joys of Irish dancing.

What is T.C.R.G. certification?

T.C.R.G. certification stands for "Teasgicoir Choimisiuin Le Rinci Gaelacha." Translation is Gaelic
Commission Dancing Teacher and it entitles an Irish dance instructor's students to dance at a
competitive level. Students at a dance school with no T.C.R.G. certified instructors are not allowed
to compete in competitions.

When will my child be able to compete/perform?
Students are allowed to begin competing and performing after their Beginner Debut. In order to
compete or perform students must purchase the Rince Nia Academy school costume.

What is a feis?

A feis is an Irish dance competition where students compete against other Irish dancers.
Feisenna (plural of feis) are held throughout the year in various locations and
enable a dancer to progress in their dancing ability and class level.
